FAQ

Nothing happens when I type

Make sure Input Monitoring is allowed: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring → turn on Happy Type. You can also click “Allow” at the top of the Settings panel. If it's already on, try toggling it off and on. Also check that Happy Type isn't paused (the switch at the top of Settings).

Why does it need Input Monitoring? Does it read what I type?

No. It only reads which key was pressed to decide where the animation appears. It never reads characters, never records or uploads anything and has no internet access. See the Privacy Policy.

The animation doesn't line up with my keys

Keyboards differ in width. Open Settings → Keyboard Alignment and pick your Mac preset, or adjust Keyboard Width and Horizontal Offset. This works for external keyboards too.

How do typing sounds work?

Choose Click, Mechanical or Melody in Settings → Typing Sounds and set the volume. In Melody mode, keys on the left play low notes and keys on the right play high notes. Sounds are off by default.

What do typing stats record?

Only a daily count of key presses — no content, no key positions. It's stored on your Mac for 30 days. You can hide the menu bar count in Settings → General.

Can I hide it while watching videos or presenting?

Turn on Settings → General → “Hide in full screen”, or pause from the switch in Settings or the right-click menu.

How do I restore Pro on a new Mac?

Sign in to the App Store with the same Apple ID, open Happy Type Settings and click “Restore Purchases” at the bottom. Pro supports Family Sharing.

How do I request a refund?

In-app purchases are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

How do I uninstall?

Right-click the menu bar icon and choose Quit, then move Happy Type from Applications to the Trash. You can also remove it from System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring.
